Faith & Poetry Series - June 20, 27, July 11, & 18
Faith and poetry are cousins. Both explore pathways to a "whole vocabulary that has to do with the inner realm of invisibility," as the poet Jorie Graham puts it. Perhaps faith finds its best expression in the language of poetry. There will be an opportunity to find out on Wednesdays, June 6 through July 18 from 6:30 to 8 PM in Parish Hall B as the Faith & Poetry course returns. There will be a light supper hosted by our rector followed by a poetry reading and discussion, led by The Rev. David Beresford. On June 20 we will read Ruellia Noctiflora by Marilyn Nelson. Elder Visitation Ministry Training - June 23
Do you have time in your schedule once a month to visit members of our parish who are ill or unable to attend church regularly? The Elder Visitation Ministry's mission is to provide prayer, compassion, and fellowship to our homebound parishioners, allowing them to feel engaged in our church family through regular visits. We will offer our three-part training beginning June 23 for those who are interested in this ministry but were unable to join us for the first series. This training is helpful as well for those with family or friends who are losing their independence and dealing with loneliness. Please contact Becky Rogers to volunteer.
Saturday Evening Eucharist - June 23
Join us for our new service on second and fourth Saturdays at 5 PM in the Chapel. Invite a friend and come worship with us.
Exploring the BCP - Sundays this Summer
Join us each Sunday at 9 AM in Parish Hall A to learn more about the red book that shapes our worship and unites us as Episcopalians. Where did the Book of Common Prayer come from? How long has it been around? How much does it really say about what we believe? Come participate in conversation about worship, history, belief, community, and what it means to be an Episcopalian!
Summertime Drop-in Choir
You are invited to join your voice with members of the Christ Church and St. Cecilia Choirs by singing in our Summertime Drop-in Choir. Gather with us at 9 AM in the Church on whichever Sundays work for you. We will review the hymns for the day and learn an anthem or two. Come once, twice, or all summer if you'd like. We look forward to welcoming you into the choir the summer!
Independence Day Service - July 4
Holy Eucharist will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 4 at 12 noon in the Chapel. All are welcome as we observe Independence Day.
Family Promise Volunteers Needed - July 15-22
Several times a year we host families who are experiencing homelessness overnight in our Parish Center. Volunteer opportunities include setting up rooms, driving a van to pick up the families, cooking dinner, eating with the families, playing with the children, or leading an evening activity. There are many ways to get involved as an individual, a group, or as a family.
July 15-22 is our next opportunity to assist with this ministry.
- To help with set-up, contact Carol Bancroft Morley.
- To prepare dinner or drive the van, contact The Rev. Stephen Setzer.
- To stay overnight, contact Jinni Hayes.
Vacation Bible School - August 13-16
Children age 3 through those in 5th grade are invited to join us for Bible stories, music, crafts, games, and adventure at this year's Vacation Bible School from August 13-16, 9 AM to 12 noon. Back by popular demand, our theme again this year will be "Hero Central: Discover Your Strength in God." We use state school cutoff dates for our age groups. Pre-K participants must be 3 by August 31 and potty-trained. VBS is a great opportunity to nurture and engage our children in their faith while in a fun, dynamic setting. The cost of the program is $20 and a 64-ounce bottle of apple juice for each child; both are due by August 13. Click here to register. Also, we are in need of parent and youth volunteers. Please contact Lisa White or Lynne Jensen to volunteer.
Order Your Christ Church Name Tag
Order a Christ Church name tag! Tags are hard plastic with a magnetic clip and are to be worn at church to help us build community as we get to know fellow parishioners and newcomers. The cost is $8 per tag, and donations are accepted to help offset the cost to the church. Click here to order yours.
