Join a Lenten Growth Group

This Lent we are focusing on Growth Groups, which are small groups of people who come together to share experiences of life and faith. Currently, we have over 75 people who are actively involved in groups; however, if you’re still on the fence and not sure about joining, consider coming to one of our two new groups that will run for just five weeks during Lent. Ruth Beresford and Bruce Barber lead a group on Tuesday evenings in the Commons Room from 7 to 8:15 PM, and Stephen Setzer leads a group on Wednesday evenings in his home in the city of Wilmington from 6 to 7:15 PM. Click here for a complete list of groups. To learn more, contact Stephen Setzer or call (302) 655-3379.

Saturday Evening Eucharist - February 24

Join us for our new service on second and fourth Saturdays at 5 PM in the Chapel, featuring musicians from Willowdale Chapel. Invite a friend and come worship with us.

Eucharistic Minister Training - February 27

A training session for new and returning Eucharistic Ministers will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 7 PM in the Church. This session is a great opportunity to review the mechanics of the position, obtain hands-on experience, and share tools for making this ministry meaningful to our fellow parishioners. Those 13 and older may serve the communion chalice and read the lessons and prayers. Those 8 and older may read the appointed scripture passage for a service. Questions about the training? Contact Jamie Holden. To RSVP for the session, contact Jane Rubini.

Compline - February 27, March 6, 13, & 20

During the season of Lent, there will be a service of Compline (night prayer) on Tuesday evenings at 8:15 PM. This brief service of prayer will be sung in the candlelit beauty of the Chapel.

Simply Christian - March 4 & 18

Simply Christian is a new Sunday morning discipleship series exploring the foundations of Christianity. It also serves as preparation for those interested in receiving the sacrament of baptism. There are companion readings for each Sunday, and the series is loosely based on N. T. Wright’s book, Simply Christian. The last two sessions in this series will take place on March 4 and 18 at 10 AM in Parish Hall A. If you would like to attend or learn more, please contact Stephen Setzer.

Choral Evensong - March 4

Choral Evensong for the Third Sunday in Lent will be offered on Sunday, March 4 at 5 PM in the Church. Led by the Christ Church Choir and Clergy, the service will include the Phos hilaron and Evening Canticles from the St. Benedict Service, Robert Lehman, Responses, Stephen Caracciolo, and Hymn to the Creator of Light, John Rutter. Michael Smith, Minister of Music at St. Thomas' Church, Whitemarsh in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, will play a 30-minute organ prelude beginning at 4:30 PM.

Choral Pilgrimage Meeting - March 4

Following the March 4 Evensong, there will be a meeting at 6:30 PM in Room 211/212 for those planning to join this summer’s Choral Pilgrimage. Spots remain for our journey to England from August 14-25 when the Christ Church Choir will be the Musicians in Residence at Bristol Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, singing daily Choral Evensong and the Sunday Eucharist. Bruce Barber will lead the choir in their residency, while Ruth Beresford will lead the choral pilgrimage for those who wish to accompany the Choir. Click here to learn more or join us on March 4.

Friday Night Bites - March 9

Join us for fun and fellowship at our Irish Friday Night Bites on March 9 from 6 to 8 PM. We'll go green and celebrate St. Patrick's Day, so bring along your "green" food—your favorite Irish Stew recipe, corned beef and cabbage, Irish potatoes, or even a good green salad. All contributions are welcome—appetizers, dinner, or dessert. Pull out your Irish green attire and come join us. Even if it has been a particularly busy week, come and unwind with fellow parishioners. Entertainment will be provided for your little ones. We look forward to seeing you there!

Piffaro Concert: Back Before Bach - March 11

Many members of Johann Sebastian Bach's extended family were stadtpfeiffers (town pipers) in German town bands. Young Johann would have grown up in a world rich with sounds of shawms and sackbuts, dulcians and recorders, krumhorns and bagpipes, trumpets and drums. "Back Before Bach" presents two centuries of wind band instruments and music on J. S. Bach's musical training and compositional output. Piffaro delights audiences with highly polished recreations of the rustic music of the peasantry and the elegant sounds of the official wind bands of the late Medieval and Renaissance periods. Tickets are $29-$49 per person and may be purchased at www.piffaro.org/season or at the door.

A Lenten Evening With Dinner & Special Guests - March 14

On Wednesday, March 14 from 6 to 8 PM, Christ Church will welcome Jackie Guidera, Florian Mittl, and Carol Guarrieri from Church of the Nativity, a Roman Catholic parish outside of Baltimore that has experienced dramatic growth over the past ten years, going from a few hundred worshipers to over 5,000 people on a weekend. You can read all about their parish in the book, Rebuilt: Awakening the Faithful, Reaching the Lost, and Making Church Matter. This team from Nativity will speak about their Small Group Ministry and its impact on the church’s discipleship and on growth, both spiritually and numerically. You’ll not want to miss this exciting evening! Dinner will be provided in the Parish Halls at 6 PM. Click here to RSVP or call (302) 655-3379.

Vestry Nominations Being Accepted

Do you feel called to serve your parish community as a member of the vestry or know someone who would make a great candidate? We are now accepting nominations for next year’s vestry class. The vestry serves many important roles in partnership with our rector. Key responsibilities include setting and enabling the long-term vision and purpose of the parish and ensuring its ongoing health and vitality through sound spiritual and financial stewardship of our congregation and our beautiful campus. As part of this, setting ministry budget priorities is a key responsibility. The current vestry has been focusing on two main areas of work, which we expect to continue over the coming years—the care and spiritual feeding of all individuals in our parish and growing our flock of engaged parishioners. If interested in learning more or submitting a nomination, please reach out to any member of the vestry, including this year’s outgoing class, who is completing their third and final year of vestry service: Al Smith, Nancy Greenberg, Lee Kallos, or Joe Zakielarz. Also, you may click here for a nomination form.
