Adult Formation

Throughout the year, Christ Church hosts formation sessions on select Wednesday evenings to grow deeper in relationship with God and in fellowship with one another. Typically, offerings begin at 6:30 PM with a shared meal, followed by a class on a specific topic that ends at 8 PM. The hour-long class features a mix of special guest conversations, teachings, and small group discussions focused on forming us as Christians. Adults of all ages are welcome to attend.

A Lamp Unto My Feet: Spiritual Guides for Modern Pilgrims

Our 2026-27 Adult Formation series draws inspiration from Psalm 119:105. The entire psalm offers extensive praise to God for the gift of God's word that encourages us, strengthens us, and give us guidance. It is a "lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path." Join us this year as we explore several guides who help illuminate our faith journey:

  • the Gospel writers;
  • Christ Church’s own predecessors;
  • poets and poetry as spiritual companions;
  • the parables of Jesus as spiritual lamps;
  • angels and demons (offered in conjunction with our Women’s Bible Study Group on Friday mornings in Lent)

All are invited to take part in these thoughtful conversations about how God’s word, faithful witnesses, and spiritual traditions can serve as lamps unto our feet. Check our News & Events page or the weekly bulletin for details as sessions are scheduled.

Small Groups at Christ Church

Small groups gather regularly at Christ Church to study the Bible and other spiritual works. Explore our options below:

Bible Study

Are you curious about the Bible or interested in learning more about the Word so central to our lives as Christians? Christ Church offers three ways for you to nurture that curiosity and deepen your understanding.

Thursday Morning Bible Study
On Thursdays from 7 and 8 AM, the Thursday Bible Study gathers with the Rev. Ruth Beresford in Parish Hall B over coffee and a light breakfast (and by Zoom). The group is open to individuals of all ages, and you are welcome to come earlier and join in Holy Eucharist at 6:30 AM in the Chapel.

Women’s Bible Study
Our Women’s Bible Study meets every other Friday at 11 AM in the Commons Room, with fellowship starting at 10:30 AM. Coordinated by Missy Flynn and Lynette Turner, different women take turns leading discussion on books in the Bible or topics illuminated by Scripture with the help of a study guide. Time for prayer and prayer requests is also part of the meeting.

The Bible in One Year
The Bible in One Year group begins in November 2026. Participants will read the entire Bible in one year, meeting weekly on Monday evenings to discuss the previous week’s readings. Rather than reading straight through from Genesis to Revelation, the group will follow the chronology of the people of God. This approach still covers the entire Bible but in such a way that helps readers better understand the unfolding story of Scripture. Participants will also benefit from discussing the readings with others. Christopher Scott leads this group.

For more information about any of these groups, please contact the group coordinator or Father Thom.

Study Groups

Study groups at Christ Church Church create space for people to grow deeper in their faith and build meaningful relationships rooted in shared learning. Participants connect scripture, tradition, and real-life experience in a supportive community that encourages spiritual growth.

Theology Study Group
The Theology Study Group meets every other Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in the Commons Room and is led by Christopher Scott. It explores writers and thinkers who have wrestled with who God is and the nature of God, engaging texts that range from classics like Augustine to contemporary writers such as C. S. Lewis and Joseph Ratzinger.

Books, Brew, & Banter
Books, Brew, & Banter meets weekly on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AM to read a thought-provoking book together and share a cup of tea or coffee. They gather in Room 301 of the Parish Center with Talley Brown as the group's convener.

For more information about these groups, please contact the group coordinator or Father Thom.

Small Groups in Homes

Christ Church Small Groups gather regularly in members’ homes to discuss scripture and other spiritual readings, to gather in prayer, and to share in fellowship (sometimes over meals). These groups are a great way to strengthen connections in our community, build friendships, and deepen our faith together.

Interested in creating or joining a new small group? Please contact Father Thom.

Fellowship Groups

Several small groups at Christ Church gather for fellowship on a regular basis. Find details and explore other fellowship options on our Parish Fellowship page.

Dine with the Ladies
On the fourth Monday of each month at 7 PM, a group of women meets for an informal dinner in Greenville. This is a great opportunity to connect with other women in the parish. Emily Knox coordinates these gatherings.

LGBTQ+ Ministry
Throughout the year, this group provides support and fellowship opportunities for LGBTQ+ Christians, allies, and the wider church. Jordan Kinsey and Scott Nickle are the group's conveners.

Men’s Group
Christ Church’s Men’s Group gathers on the fourth Thursday of most months at 7 PM in the Commons Room for a time of fellowship and sharing, facilitated by the Rev. Thom Peters.

Check our News & Events page or the weekly bulletin for details on these offerings as they are scheduled.
