Alcoholics Anonymous

The Christ Church group of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Tuesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 PM in Parish Hall B.  A Closed Step Meeting, it was started about 1943 and is perhaps the oldest AA meeting in the Wilmington area.  A closed meeting is customarily attended only by persons who believe they have a problem with alcohol and wish to stop drinking.  A step meeting discusses one of the 12 Steps that constitutes AA's program of recovery.

A second meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in Parish Hall B.  An Open Eleventh Step Meeting, it is a revitalization of a similar group that met for many years in one of the Sunday School rooms.  As an open meeting, it welcomes anyone with an interest in alcoholism and recovery, including family members, clergy, and other caregivers.  The Eleventh Step is AA's so-called "God Step":  We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood him, praying only for knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry that out.
