For over 50 years, the Green Show has served as Christ Church's annual fund-raiser which provides fellowship for Christ Church parishioners and funds for community organizations. The term "Green Show" refers to the early beginnings of selling fresh holiday greens—handmade wreaths, topiaries, bundles of holly, magnolia, and exotic evergreens. Considerable time, talent, and enthusiasm are exhibited the week of the Green Show as fresh, one-of-a-kind arrangements are assembled. Volunteers of all ages begin working in earnest starting in September at informational workshops and with take-home kits and supplies for those who are unable to attend the workshops.
The Green Show kicks off with a Gala Preview Party and Silent Auction. Homemade Soups, Gourmet Meals to Go, Wine Corner, Plants, and Divine Inspirations are just a few of the shops open during the Preview. The centerpiece of the evening is a fabulous Silent Auction filled with special vacations to exotic places, tickets to sporting and cultural events, gift baskets, artwork, and many other treasures. The Christ Church Green Show itself is open to the entire community, and the emphasis is clearly on the children. Children's crafting classes, photo opportunities with Santa, and Santa's Workshop with assisted shopping by Santa's elves are available. Inside Greens, Outside Greens, Pantry Shelf, Plants, Soups, Divine Inspirations, and Gourmet Freezer Shops are well stocked for all of your holiday shopping and entertaining needs, and a sit-down luncheon and a cafeteria-style express lunch are available as well.
All proceeds are allocated through the Outreach Committee to charitable organizations in the community. The 2007 Green Show raised $75,000 for these organizations.
Green Show Cookbooks Available The 2007 Green Show Cookbook is available for purchase for $15. Titled A Bridge from the Past to the Future, the cookbook contains the old 1970’s chapters in their entirety as well as selected recipes from 1993’s version and new recipes for 2007. In full color, the cover and dividers showcase our talent within. Thank you to Coleman Sellers for the cover photograph, the same as was used for our Parish Profile. The Section Dividers feature artwork from preschoolers who were asked “What does church look like to you?”; artists come from our church and CCEP. You will find over 840 recipes from several generations of parishioners and priests. To order a copy, please click here. Copies are also available after church on Sundays and in the Receptionist's Office during the week.
