Epiphany House
Epiphany House Dedicated
On Sunday, June 6 Epiphany House was dedicated and has accepted its first residents.
The whole Christ Church community made possible our $100,000 capital gift to this project. With the leadership of Linda Boyden, former real estate offices have been turned into a home. Many parishioners gave furniture, household items, and donations to fuel the effort to set up the house. Youth planted a garden, children have prepared welcome baskets, men have moved furniture, others have cleaned and arranged. In addition, parishioners serve on the Board, work on their fund-raising events, or host their own on behalf of Friendship House. We are so blessed and humbled by ongoing leadership and generosity of so many parishioners. Thank you all!

Study, Sup, and Serve - September 21, 29, October 6, 13, 20, & 27
Looking for a meaningful, short-term opportunity to learn and serve with fellow parishioners? This fall, join a small group of parishioners who will gather for six weeks to read and discuss The Prison Angel: Mother Antonia’s Life of Service in a Mexican Jail, by Mary Jordan and Kevin Sullivan. After the group completes the book, we will then go in small groups to serve and eat a meal with the women of Epiphany House who are transitioning out of prison.
The group will kick off the six-week series with an evening gathering on Tuesday, September 21 from 7 to 8 PM in the Commons Room. In the following five weeks, we will gather for discussion and lunch on Wednesdays, September 29, October 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 12 to 1 PM at PureBread in Greenville. Then, members will select an evening in early-November to serve a meal at Epiphany House. Space is limited, so please sign up early by clicking here.
Additional Opportunities to Help
This fall, there are several ways to continue helping the women at Epiphany House.
Providing Meals: Christ Church Outreach would like to organize regular dates when our parishioners will provide dinner. This work will involve taking a meal for about six people to Epiphany House by 5:30 PM and joining the group for dinner for about an hour. Two people to cook, serve, and share supper works well. For more information, please contact Joe Stoeckle.
Teaching Decision making Skills: Join parishioners Key Murray and Carolyn Karney in one-on-one mentoring on decision making. This group meets once a week with the residents at Epiphany House currently Mondays at 6:30 PM for 90 minutes. Key will train future volunteers who will be asked to sign on for a 7-week cycle. His expertise comes from 16 years of teaching decision making skills to prisoners. For more information, please contact Key Murray at 777-7171.
Teaching Employment Skills & Money Management: Assist Benita Allen, executive director of Pathways to Wholeness, in teaching employment skills to Epiphany House residents. Skills include resume writing, setting up email accounts, using a flash drive, navigating an internet job search, and interviewing for jobs. Volunteer training for this 6-week course will include three sessions with Benita as well as an orientation. This group meets on Thursdays at 6:30 PM for less than two hours. Benita also offers another 6-week course: Money Management and Credit Restoration. For more information about helping with these courses, please contact Barbara Cairns or Tomoko Werbe.
Please consider if any of these life-giving and rewarding activities may be your calling!
