School Age
Kindergarten
Room 205/206
Like younger children, kindergarteners have an immense capacity for faith. While they instinctively understand God, they are also able to see how a sacred story can and does impact their life. The lessons that they are learning are the same as the preschoolers; however, they are taught at their level of education.
Grades 1 and 2
Room 210
For 1st and 2nd graders, we use the Godly Play curriculum. Godly Play instructs students in the language, mystery, and stories of the church. Through scared stories, parables, and liturgical actions all are invited to learn about the wonder of God. Children gather together in their sacred space, and together they prepare to enter the story. The scared story, parable, or lesson is told through simple props that engage the listener. When the story is finished, everyone is invited to wonder. Through these wonder questions, children gain a greater understanding of the story they have heard. Students continue to respond to the story through open-ended art projects, where they are encouraged to draw about what they saw. The group will finish with prayer, blessing, and dismissal.
Grades 3 and 4
Room 213
Children in grades 3 and 4 are growing at a fast rate, both mentally and physically. Most are eager readers, curious learners, and are beginning to ask many questions beyond what they can touch and see. The teachers encourage these students to reflect on the stories that they are learning and how the messages personally impact their lives.
Grades 5 and 6
Room 211
The typical 5th and 6th grader is beginning to look at their place in the world outside of their family unit. Christian Formatiion provides a safe place for them to begin to see themselves on a life journey. Specifically, they reflect on the lessons they learn and how they can use this knowledge to guide their faith journey.
