Sunday Morning Adult Education
Sunday morning Adult Education classes take place from September through April and complement worship by offering opportunities to learn about and grow in faith through dialog with fellow members and select speakers from outside the parish. All sessions begin at 10:10 AM. Come join us and expand your horizons! Sessions will resume in the fall.
Spiritual Dialogue to Begin - May 18
After two forums during the winter, the Spiritual Dialogue will begin on Sunday, May 18, with an afternoon/evening session. We will be drawing on a variety of sources from the Bible to the writings of other religious traditions and to the centuries-old material from the Wisdom initiative as we work at the evolution of the Spirit within us. If interest burns within you, please contact Jim Patton, Sig Andersen, or Carl Kunz.
Rector's Bible Study - Wednesday Evenings
On Wednesday evenings, Ruth Kirk leads a Bible Study from 7:30 to 8:30 PM in the Commons Room. The texts are for the coming Sunday's worship, from the revised common lectionary cycle. Youth and adults are welcome!
Thursday Morning Bible Study
This study is led by The Reverend George Karney. Following the 6:30 AM Eucharist in the Chapel, books of the Bible are discussed over an informal breakfast in Room 211/212. Each session ends at 7:45 AM. This is an excellent opportunity to take time out of a busy schedule for worship, fellowship, and deepening our knowledge of Scripture. It’s a great way to begin the day.
Books, Brew, and Banter
Books, Brew, & Banter meets weekly to read a spiritually uplifting book together, with plenty of time for discussion and laughter. The group recently began reading Amazing Grace by Kathleen Norris. Join us on Tuesdays in the Commons Room at 10:30 AM. New members are always welcome! Come banter with this group whenever your schedule permits! For more information, contact the Church Office.
Education for Ministry
Education for Ministry (EFM) is a program of theological education-at-a-distance offered by the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Every baptized person is called to ministry, and EFM provides people with the education to carry out that ministry. During the Service of Confirmation, we ask God to "Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at Baptism. Send them forth in the power of the Spirit to perform the service you set before them." EFM offers an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service. Students sign up one year at a time for this 4-year program, and the years do not have to be completed consecutively. The program covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. Students meet once a week for 34 weeks per academic year in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors. The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year’s work. While EFM is on hiatus at Christ Church during 2007, it is offered at other area Episcopal churches, and it will resume here in Fall 2008. Cost is $340 per year and scholarships are available. Contact Jennifer O'Connor for more information.
