Our Vestry Nominees

Cynthia L. Cozza

Although raised in the Roman Catholic tradition, maternal relatives shared the richness, depth, and beauty of their Anglican heritage with Cindi throughout her upbringing. After moving to Delaware in 1989, she embraced Protestant Christianity, joining a United Methodist Church where she actively served on leadership and ministry teams. In 2018, a desire for weekly celebration of the Eucharist led her to the Episcopal Church, and she was received as a member of Christ Church in 2022. With a deep commitment to children with learning differences, Cindi utilized her master’s degrees in speech/language pathology and special education throughout her 30-year career. She attributes her strong personal relationship with God as the crucial bedrock in her leadership roles as a school administrator at The Pilot School in Wilmington. Given increasing family caretaking responsibilities, she transitioned from professional life in 2022. Over the years, Cindi has felt called to ordained ministry and looks to discern that call within our faith community. Insights gained through our Choral and Holy Land pilgrimages and participation in Thursday morning Bible study, small group study, various Adult Formation series, and the Education for Ministry (EfM) program have inspired, fortified, and deepened her faith. Soon she begins classes at the Stevenson School for Ministry for continued spiritual growth and possible vocational preparation. Cindi serves on the Renovation Team, is an Evening Prayer leader, lector, Eucharistic minister, and enjoys Green Show wreath-making. She is a member of Diocesan Council, a delegate to Annual Convention, and has been the volunteer coordinator and an advisor to the bishop for the diocesan Pain & Prayer Project. Alongside her adult daughter, Caitlin, her soul is filled by prayer, reading, journaling, outdoor recreation, and traveling. Cindi was privileged to hold a vestry position at Grace Episcopal Church, equipping her with beneficial experience. She hopes to bring her devotion to Christ’s vision and mission for Christ Church and her heart for collaborative, Spirit-led service in the Wilmington community to the vestry.

Barbara S. King

Barbara was led to faith in Jesus Christ as a child by her parents, the late Rev. Dr. James M. Singer and Phyllis Singer. She grew up in the Lutheran tradition in churches her father served. She was born in Alexandria, Virginia and raised in the mid-Atlantic states. Barbara earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware. As Barbara moved about as an adult, she attended churches of different denominations (Episcopal, Methodist, and Presbyterian) and found God’s joy in each of them. She followed her husband, Dale King, into membership at Christ Church in January 2022 and enjoys meeting new friends and serving God and our congregation as a Eucharistic minister and lector. Barbara and Dale have two adult children (both married), two granddaughters, and two noisy but sweet dogs. Happily for Barbara, all of them live close by (especially the dogs). She is also blessed spending time with her elderly mother. In 2017, Barbara retired from a career in managing risk in payment systems. She is thankful for the knowledge and skills she developed in her work life, and she is pleased applying those skills to work in God’s kingdom. While a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hockessin, she served as vice president of council (Lutheran version of the vestry), leader of the mutual ministry team, and in various other lay leadership capacities. She is currently the president of the board of trustees for Lutheran Community Services (LCS), one of the organizations Christ Church supports through our outreach ministry. Barbara will transition to president emeritus at LCS in May 2024. Barbara is eager to listen to the needs of Christ Church members and help discern how those needs can continue to be met. She is also eager to help members connect to ministries that will allow them to live out their individual callings.

Richard Thorpe Moeckel

Thorpe was born and raised in Wilmington. His family attended the Cathedral Church of St. John where Thorpe was baptized and confirmed and where he and his wife Peggy were married. The Moeckels joined Christ Church when their children were young and began attending Sunday school. Their children are now grown and live outside of the area, and two of three grandchildren were baptized at Christ Church. Recently retired from a long career in design and construction, Thorpe maintains a part-time position as senior director of development for Wohlsen Construction, one of the mid-Atlantic’s leading construction services companies. Thorpe is a weekly attendee at the Thursday morning Eucharist and Bible study. He served on the Chapel Restoration and Chapel Organ Committees and is currently a member of the Property Committee. Thorpe has been very active in past service to our community serving as a 15-year trustee of the Tatnall School (5 years as board chair), 10-year trustee of the Delaware College of Art & Design (5 years as board chair), trustee of the Choir School of Delaware, board member of the University of Delaware Alumni Association (3 years as president), and board member of the Delaware Theatre Company. Currently, Thorpe is on the board of directors of the Wilmington Rotary Club and is a trustee, member of the Executive Committee, and chair of the Buildings & Grounds Committee of the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art. Thorpe is honored to be considered for membership on the vestry. He is excited for the opportunity to share his experience in community service along with his work in design and construction, with a particular interest in the stewardship of Christ Church’s historic buildings and property.

James L. Poston

Jamie has been a member of the Christ Church community since 2012, and both of his daughters, Adrienne and Alexis, were baptized here and are active in the children’s ministry and chorister program. A native Delawarean, Jamie was initially introduced to Christ Church by close friends who were members and felt an immediate connection and draw to the church community. At Christ Church, Jamie has served as a Eucharistic minister and usher, in the Parish Fellowship ministry coordinating Lemonade on the Lawn, as a chorister parent, a member of the Children & Youth Ministry Team, and is a teacher in the Godly Play 4th-5th grade classroom. He has also enjoyed participating and volunteering with the men’s small group and at the Green Show. Jamie is a graduate of the University of Delaware for both his undergraduate and master’s degree in physical therapy and the University of Montana for his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. He has enjoyed a 25-year career as an orthopedic physical therapist for nonprofit health systems in both Wilmington and Philadelphia and has contributed as a clinical manager overseeing the Wilmington Hospital outpatient therapy department. In addition, Jamie served as a primary faculty mentor for MossRehab’s orthopedic physical therapy residency program and as a founding governance board member for the Einstein Spine Institute, both in Philadelphia. Personally and professionally, Jamie believes in a life that is based on service to others and is grateful to see his daughters grow up in the church and, together with their church family, learn those same principles of service, faith, love, charity, humility, and grace. He is honored to be nominated for the vestry and is excited to help promote the growth, tradition, and outreach of Christ Church Christiana Hundred.

Christopher D. Scott

Following his divorce, Chris joined Christ Church with his daughter, Amelia, where she was baptized in September 2022 and he was confirmed in October 2023. Having been baptized Methodist and raised Quaker, Chris appreciates the richness of the Episcopal tradition all the more for having found it later in life after much searching. He regards his Confirmation as one of the best days of his life. He regularly attends the 8 AM service, often joined by his parents and daughter as a multigenerational family, and he frequently serves as an acolyte at this service. This year, he had the privilege of serving on the Outreach Committee, where he drew on his work experience to review grant applications and allocate funds to local nonprofits. In his free time, he enjoys distance running, reading, and hiking. Chris earned his MBA while working full-time and is currently employed as a quality associate within the compliance department of a large bank. He has prior experience in loan underwriting, government programs, and fraud investigations, as well as a decade in sales management. He hopes to bring his business acumen and eye for detail to the vestry. If elected, Chris will focus on two areas that he believes are especially important: finding ways to integrate more young families into the parish and increasing parishioner involvement with local charities. Chris is honored to have been nominated and looks forward to this opportunity to serve.

B. Lynette Turner

Lynette was born and raised in Virginia and confirmed at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Orange Park, Florida in 1982. In 1997, she became a member of Christ Church, where she sang in the St. Cecilia Choir and participated in small groups. Currently, she serves on the Outreach Committee and the Elder and Parish Fellowship ministry teams. She is a Lay Eucharistic Visitor, co-facilitator of our Women’s Bible Study on first and third Fridays of the month, and is a member of Books, Brew, & Banter. In her community, she has served as secretary and president of the board of her condominium association. In 2011, Lynette retired after 39 years with Amtrak, having worked in various departments of the corporation. She has gained vital experience in collaborating with many diverse groups, which enhanced her development of leadership skills professionally and in volunteerism. She received formal training from Hospice of Northeast Florida and served as a Hospice volunteer. Also, she has received formal training for The Stephen Ministry at the Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli, Pennsylvania. She believes that both organizations helped foster her sense of empathy and compassion. At an early age, Lynette began developing her faith. She considers it a key responsibility to continue to grow our faith in Jesus Christ, both in the Church and in our community. She is very grateful for our clergy’s leadership, our church office staff, and our director of music’s ability to enrich our music ministry. Having been engaged in various ministries and committees at Christ Church over the years, Lynette appreciates the hard work and support of our parishioners. She strongly believes in everyone using their gifts and talents for the Lord and continuing to nurture our growth for now and generations to come.
